Getting Back On The Horse
A client of mine needed a pick-me-up this morning, and I thought you might benefit from reading our dialog.
First, here’s what’s going on:
My buddy, let’s call him Brian, sent me an email this morning.
Basically, it was him taking responsibility for not taking all the actions he had committed to.
(Pretty freaking awesome and powerful of him!)
He owned it.
Then, he started giving me reasons why he might pull back, and put things on hold for a while…
Here are some of the things it said:
The Subject Line of his email to me: “have not been accountable brother.”
More of what it said:
“I need to stop all consulting calls for now, my brother from another mother.”
“I have got to get my shit straight right now.”
“I honestly have not been motivated when I get home…”
“I know I have to though since my restaurant has not been doing well…”
“I am working 6 days a week now and the past couple weekends have been swamped with stuff.”
“I am already mad at myself and I will get working now.”
“I will get in touch with you once I get some stuff straight.”
The reason I’m sharing his words in this blog… is because
…I know we’ve all felt that way.
At least I have.
So perhaps my response to him will be valuable to you as well.
I sent him the following email to “get him back on the horse.”
First, great job owning your crap.
That is BEING ACCOUNTABLE.
I’m cool with what you’re saying.
And I’m not…
What I’m cool with, is understanding how
life can get in the way. I get it.
However, part of my job, is to support you…
ESPECIALLY when you want to quit/put things on hold.
When we started this, I asked you if you were
really committed to FINISH what we start together.
You said “Hell Yeah!”
You and I also know how much this is worth to you
$$$ 6-Figures minimum to both you and me.
So here… is the REAL situation – as I see it:
1. You are doing GREAT!
What you’ve created so far is F-ing AWESOME…
It is TITS… It is sooo good, you have no idea…
2. Setbacks are expected.
I want you to look at the following 2 images:
Which of these 2 arrows do you think reflects the REAL path to success?
A straight f-ing arrow?
The one without any hardships, excuses, or setbacks? Or, the crooked one?
*SO NOTE THIS BRIAN >>>> I EXPECT AN EMAIL OR CALL WITH “FEELINGS” LIKE THE ONES YOU ARE HAVING NOW…
It’s natural. But it too, will pass.
3. Now is NOT the time to hold back.
It is time to push forward.
Just you shooting me this email, and responding back and being authentic with me is progress.
Progress = Success
“The road to success, goes through the dump.”
That’s cool. It’s okay.
4. Lastly, I just talked to my partner Marco
on Monday, about how we might be able to sell
your system to one of our clients!
Marco will be meeting with them soon…
so I just sent him the outline of your new course.
Marco and I talked about you teaching your course to our clients staff. Possibly having them fly you out for a day, then having you teach your Certification course for our client – and his staff.
So let’s set our next call, and take the next steps to move you forward.
Your progress is still AWESOME.
**Oh, and one more thing…
I’M GIVING MY TIME TO YOU BROTHER…
SO YOU FREAKING OWE ME – TO FINISH WHAT WE STARTED!!!
(that was my coach/yell)
So my friend…
I don’t know if that resonated with you at all…
I don’t know if you need a swift-kick-in-the-butt to get back on the horse…
But, if you fall off… You’ve GOT TO GET BACK ON!
